WEEK III: 14th -18th March, 2016

 DAY 10 and 11
Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th, March 2016, I was preparing for my EDCL test and examine as well as updating my blog. We receive an email showing below diagram from our mentor Gurdish Sandhu with the caption are you mentally strong. This was a food for taught for the illustration is embedded with a lots of concept that stand alone.
DAY 12 & 13
Wednesday 16th & Thursday 17th, March 2016 Room KD1.28 & KD1.29 @9am, a special training program on “Leadership and Management Training” was organized by Gurdish Sandhu using by a Consultant, Gezz Zwanenber of Corporate Coach Group, London. And many staff of IT Service Department participated with us fellows.

The training explain to us “How we can get the best from yourself and others?” by using the philosophy of Rational Optimism which proposed that "in order to get the best from yourself and others be clear, be rational, and be positive".
Participants were encouraged to develop six major qualities of rational optimism which included:
1.    clarity of purpose: Goal Focus
2.    excellent communication skills: accurate language
3.    rational planning: time management, prioritization and preparation
4.    rational conflict management
5.    inspiring and motivating yourself (personal management)
6.    inspiring and motivating others (leadership qualities)
Zwanenber give useful illustration and life experiences to portray some points which includes among other things;
a)  that we should always set SMART goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely;
b)  before speaking (or writing), work out the meaning of your most important terms by using the principle of CG4D (context, general class name, 4 distinguishing characteristics of your term);

·       Use the P-list activity for productive time management (i.e. planning ahead, prioritization, practice, perfecting, personal initiative, projection of possible problems, etc.)
·       Whenever in conflict, use ONLY OBJECTIVE language; always distinguish between "reasons" and "excuses" and have a different policy for each.

·       create more energy by the proper use of sleep, nutrition and exercise; and
·       When you are criticized; don't get angry, instead get serious!

DAY 14
18 march 2016 @9am I was in the training room in the library were I was working on the Ms Project management in preparation for my ECDL test.
@2pm at Sport Dock Room SD2.07 we had a meeting session with Madam Gurdish who take us on a topic Library Management System overview. She elaborate on Library Management System @ UEL and how they were able to achieve the electronic library system they are currently enjoy now by the student and staff. She also mention how they were able to transform library collections and services through integrated platform to enhance student experience and attainment through personalization , empowering staff to offer innovative service, enable then to magnify UEL reputation as well as provide them business intelligence to maximize ROI. Developing future capacity and capability, etc.
John springe, Assistant Technical Manager, UEL. Had a session with us too about the change of UEL library system from beginning to current state. He also talk about ALMA and Primo Discovery which empower the library users to shape the discovery experience, providing students, faculty and staff an intuitive, end-to-end service, and maximizing the value of library collections.
Also we 2016 fellows present a proposal on Website creation for UEL Alumni Commonwealth Fellows where all the activities of past and present fellowship will be showcase. This was discussed with Madam Gurdish and Kulvinder, there was mutual agreement by everyone to host the alumni website.
